I wanted to give everyone an update on everything going on with us. Two Sundays ago was our last Sunday at Odum Baptist serving as the youth & education pastor there. It marked the close of a ministry that had it’s ups and downs but then what doesn’t. As we pulled out of the parking lot that day God showed me that a lot of times we don’t know or cannot even come close to comprehending the impact we have for The Kingdom of God until things come to a close and then we won’t truly see until we reach Heaven. I’m thankful for the people there and the two years that we had with them. We are now full-time church planters serving on the field. It’s been a learning curve adjusting to the new role and stepping out of youth ministry into the role of church planter.

WATCH THIS YOU WILL LAUGH TO DEATH

This video is absolutely hilarious. However, think about it this is how so-called Christian programming portrays us all to people who are far from God.

Happy Mothers Day All The Moms

Who Needs A Laugh Tonight?

I’ll never forget the first time I rode onto the campus of Liberty University visiting it for the first time. I’ll never forget the first people that I met during my time at LU. I even remember what shirt I wore during orientation and as a shy 19 year old kid from South Georgia I knew my life would never be the same. People automatically knew I was from the south…. Could it have been my strong southern accent? In all of that Liberty was a life changing experience, God used Liberty to help shape me into the man, husband, father I am know. I think one of the biggest ways that it changed me is that I’m willing to take risks. Risks when you look down on paper they just don’t make since, but I believe that with God it’s all possible. Recently I was going through some old papers and came across a list of things I wrote down while listening to the late Dr. Jerry Falwell. I know I heard this list 1000 times, including how Liberty was started, what year TRBC was started and where, but this time I wrote it down. This list just reminded me of how the biggest most audacious goals can be accomplished. Here’s the list.

  1. What is it I want to accomplish in my life?
  2. What would I try to do if I thought I wouldn’t fail?
  3. What goals would I make if I knew I wouldn’t fail?
  4. What sacrifices would I be willing to make?

B-HAG = Big Hairy Audacious Goal

But let me ask… What are some of the defining moments that changed you life? What’s the biggest dream you’d like to accomplish in your life?

This mornings reading focused on James 4 but a couple of verses really hit home…. The Message says, “Where do you think all these appalling wars and quarrels come from? Do you think they just happen? Think again. They come about because you want your own way, and fight for it deep inside yourselves. You lust for what you don’t have and are willing kill to get it. You want what isn’t yours and will risk violence to get your hands on it.”

Isn’t this exactly like what we are. We are willing to do whatever to get what we want. Whether it is church fights or a kid getting murdered over his shoes. All fights start with people who are willing to do whatever it takes to get what they want. In the corporate world people do whatever it takes to get ahead. Dishonest gains, hurt people is this the legacy you want to leave behind? What about a legacy that is summed up with seeing how God has used you to help build the Kingdom of God not your kingdom.

One of the things that I have noticed in regards to BridgePoint is how easy it is to get bogged down with everything going on my everyday life that you put the vision for BridgePoint on the back shelf. I think I have faced every imaginable focus stealer that can happen in the past few weeks. One thing hit me last night after I went on a prayer ride (talk about that later), which is I have to always keep the vision that God has given to me for BridgePoint forefront and keep that as our focus of what we are attempting to achieve and not let the trivial things slow me down. If you let your focus be stolen then you are never able get the ball rolling and you end up putting off what God has called you to do. Okay, back to the prayer ride last night I went on a 12 mile bike ride riding through different neighborhoods in the area in which God has called us to plant BridgePoint praying over the homes and getting a feel for the area. It was incredible to become more and more understanding of who the people of Brunswick are and now that we are citizens of Glynn County what makes the people tick. I also realized I’ve got to get back riding more because the winter months have taken their toll on me.

One of the things that I’ve learned about storming the gates of hell is that once you commit to do the impossible and commit to follow through with what God has called you to do you have placed a giant target on your back.  Since we made public that God has called us to launch BridgePoint Church this upcoming September I have never been attacked by the enemy in this magnitude my entire life.  However even though you go through attacks the Lord places certain things in your path to remind you that He is there and that He has not left you.  These things that God shows us gives us hope and it encourages us to stand firm in the faith just as Paul told to the young Timothy, “You then, my child, be strenghthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 2:1, ESV).  If you are going through a time in which you are trusting God and stepping out on faith be prepared for what is in store, but better yet be strengthed by the grace of Jesus Christ he will never let you down.

Okay…Here’s the deal every Tuesday night is “Family Night” at the Oglesby household so this week in honor of Veteran’s Day we had a military theme night.  For starters Laura comes from a military family with her dad a retired Navy Seal and her brother currently serving in the Air Force, so Laura & the kids called them thanking them for serving our country and fighting for the freedoms that we enjoy.  We headed down to Brunswick where the kids were able to see a model of the Liberty Ship that was built during WWII and then we ended the evening by trying to enjoy MRE military meals for dinner.  Here’s the funny part we were parked in a park trying to figure these meals in the brown bags when my sister pulled up on us.  First off we don’t live in Brunswick and why are we sitting parked in our car eating military meals??? Her thoughts were are you crazy??? I admit it did seem a little weird (okay, a lot), but we were celebrating Veteran’s Day!  We did get to see our nephew play part of his football game in the end!  Then we stopped at Chik-Fil-A for some real food.
